English & Communication

At Mayfield School, our English & Communication curriculum supports pupils to develop the communication, literacy, and expressive skills they need to access learning, understand the world, and share their own ideas, feelings, and experiences. Our reading spine has been thoughtful created to ensure pupils are exposed to a range of authors and genres, and incorporates books that reflect our pupil cohort. Guided by our Total Communication approach, we nurture pupils’ confidence, independence, and love of literature through rich, meaningful experiences that are responsive to individual strengths, needs, and preferred modes of communication. Our intent ensures that all learners—at every stage of their pathway—develop the foundations of functional literacy that empower them to participate in learning, community life, and adulthood.
