Mayfield School is committed for each of its pupils to access a broad, balanced, and exciting curriculum. We understand that some of our pupils need extra support and equipment to do this successfully. Occupational Therapy at Mayfield School is provided by the Children and Families Division of the Paediatric Occupational Therapy Service Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, to those learners who need additional support.

Mayfield School supports our Occupational Therapists to provide guidance and interventions which are:

  • Occupation-focused – helping children and young people take part in, achieve and enjoy all aspects of school life.
  • Collaborative –working with school staff to help pupils access learning across all areas of the curriculum, in the classroom and beyond.
  • Context-specific – considering all aspects of the physical, sensory, cultural and educational environment that support or limit young people’s participation, achievement and wellbeing, we suggest changes that are appropriate and relevant.
  • Solution-focused – identifying factors that limit a young person, or group of young people’s learning and participation, finding solutions that build on their strengths and work in the School Environment.
