At Mayfield school, Behaviour Values and Policy set clear expectations and celebrate positive behaviour through verbal praise, Dojo points and positive communication with families, reinforcing pupils’ sense of achievement and belonging. Our approach recognises that behaviour is a form of communication and is best understood within the context of each pupil’s individual needs; therefore, we place strong emphasis on supporting pupils to develop positive behaviour and self-regulation strategies.
Leaders have established clear systems to create a calm, orderly, supportive and positive environment through detailed Support Passports for each pupil and Behaviour Support Plans displayed in classrooms as a working document.

The Attendance, Behaviour and Safeguarding team focuses on pupils’ experiences and leaders’ actions are effective in supporting pupils to achieve, belong and thrive. Across all Key Stages and Pathways, structure is embedded and this contributes to a calm climate for learning. Attendance and behaviour are closely monitored in partnership with pupils and families to remove barriers to learning, acknowledging the strong link between emotional wellbeing, behaviour and engagement. Behaviour systems are closely aligned with safeguarding, with staff remaining vigilant to changes in behaviour and working proactively to ensure pupils feel safe, listened to and supported.
Mayfield School provides training and development opportunities for all adults in school to help them understand behaviours linked to SEND and how to consistently implement personalised strategies and interventions to help pupils to succeed. Through our inclusive interventions led by our Inclusion and Behaviour HLTA’s, pupil voice is valued, with children encouraged to contribute to their own support strategies. Visual supports, personalised plans and consistent language ensure behaviour expectations are accessible, meaningful and promote independence for all pupils.
Staff work with pride as a committed team to create a happy, safe and child-centred community, which promotes respect, honesty and dignity and demonstrates the academy values: Engage, Include, Apply and Together. We work with parents and external professionals to develop a consistent approach tailored to individuals across our setting.
