“Building on growing confidence and curiosity, learners in this pathway are supported to investigate, problem-solve, and collaborate within purposeful contexts. By linking learning to the real world, we empower pupils to make choices, develop functional skills, and foster resilience as they prepare for further independence in learning and life.

As learners progress, the Explore & Enquire pathway places increasing emphasis on preparation for adulthood, including life skills, community engagement, and career-related learning. Through meaningful experiences, we support pupils to explore aspirations, understand transition options, and develop the confidence to navigate the next stages of their journey with autonomy and purpose.”

Our learners following the Explore and Enquire pathway are supported to successfully access learning by:

  • Increased functional independence: learners supported to work with less direct adult input but with structures still in place
  • Opportunities for cooperative learning: clear, supported frameworks for peer collaboration and group work
  • Increasing real-world learning contexts: learning linked to real-life skills, community experiences, and problem-solving
  • Visual supports for multi-step tasks: task boards and visual sequences used for more complex activities
  • Continued sensory regulation opportunities: proactive sensory diets and movement breaks embedded into the routine
  • Safe, supported risk-taking supported: learners encouraged to make mistakes, problem-solve, and manage small-scale challenges with adult support
  • Transitions supported but increasingly independent: visual prompts still in place but with less scaffolding over time
