Discover & Explore
Mathematics in this pathway focuses on building a foundation of number awareness, spatial understanding, and early problem-solving through repetitive, sensory-rich experiences. Learners will engage with object matching, sorting games, and exploratory play using manipulatives, real-life resources, and visuals. Activities such as placing items in order, building patterns with shapes, or identifying size differences are designed to be functional and meaningful. Maths is encountered through routine and structure, helping learners develop confidence and independence in using number, time, shape, and mathematical language in everyday situations.
Explore & Enquire
Maths in this pathway equips learners with functional and conceptual knowledge to solve real-life problems. Learners use number, measure, time, and money to make choices, complete practical tasks, and explain their reasoning. Teaching is hands-on and collaborative, often linking to familiar contexts such as cooking, travelling, or shopping. Learners are encouraged to use pictorial representations, tools like number lines and hundred squares, and structured play to investigate patterns and make comparisons. As confidence grows, learners begin to communicate mathematical thinking and explore different strategies.
Enquire & Beyond
The mathematics curriculum at this level develops learners’ ability to apply, reason, and communicate Maths in increasingly complex and practical ways. Learners interpret data, manage time and money, explore problem-solving scenarios, and prepare for accreditation. Lessons focus on independent use of resources, software (e.g. spreadsheets), and real-life simulations such as budgeting or planning a journey. Maths becomes a tool for understanding the world and supports learners’ aspirations for employment, further study, and life beyond school.
